House Democrats, under pressure from a group of moderates in their ranks and the banking lobby, agreed Tuesday to narrow legislation that would give bankruptcy judges the power to force lenders to rewrite mortgages for debt-strapped homeowners.

Blockbuster Said to Hire Firm for Advice on Possible Bankruptcy (Bloomberg)
March 4 (Bloomberg) — Blockbuster Inc. , the world’s largest movie-rental chain, hired the law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP to explore a possible bankruptcy filing, a person familiar with the situation said. Blockbuster fell as much as 86 percent yesterday before trading was halted.
